McDonald's Has To Get Rid Of 10 Million Pounds Of Mighty Wings

McDonald's has 10 million pounds of Mighty Wings it needs to sell soon.
The wings, which represent 20% of the chicken wings produced for a promotion, are in frozen storage writes Julie Jargon at The Wall Street Journal.

McDonald's was unable to sell enough according to Jargon.
Earlier this year, CEO Don Thompson said that the chicken wings aren't the smash success it had hoped for.
While Mighty Wings apparently met internal targets, the item "was not strong enough to offset" weak sales trends, Thompson said on a conference call.
Here are some of the reasons they flopped.
Price:  In McDonald's terms, Mighty Wings are a premium product. The wings come in packs of three for $3.69, five for $5.59, and 10 for $9.69. Thompson said the prices, which are similar to Buffalo Wild Wings, were  not the most competitive.Spice:  Thompson said the wings were too spicy for many customers' tastes.
Appearance:  The Mighty Wings looked too much like "McNuggets with bones," writes Susan Berfield at Bloomberg Businessweek.
Economy:  Many McDonald's customers are still struggling financially—and are more likely to spend their hard-earned money on a tried-and-true favorite. The fast food giant is currently implementing a plan to get rid of the wings.

4 Reasons Running is Best for Weight Loss

Bikini image in sexy style of USA:Any exercise is good exercise, but when it comes to losing weight, it's hard to beat running. After all, running is one of the most efficient ways to burn calories and get fit without having to restrict your diet. If you're
already a runner, keep on keepin' on. If you're not a runner yet but interested in losing weight, here are four reasons running can be the best exercise for weight loss.MORE: 10 Golden Rules for Weight Loss That Lasts.1. Running works even when you're at rest. High-intensity exercise like running stimulates more "afterburn" than low-intensity exercise. That is, even when comparing running with walking the same distance, studies find that running will lead to greater weight loss, most likely because your resting energy expenditure stays elevated after you run. In a long-term comparison study of runners and walkers, calories burned through running led to 90% more weight loss than calories burned through walking.2. Running is time-efficient. Even if the myth that running a mile and walking a mile burn the same number of calories were true (find out the truth about calorie burn here), running is a considerably faster way to burn those calories. Most people can run two or three times as far as they can walk in a given amount of time. At the other end of the spectrum, super-intense but short workouts, such as the "Scientific 7-minute Workout" from the Human Performance Institute, may burn more calories per minute per running, but because they're so short, your total caloric burn isn't as great if you ran.PLUS: The Truth About Running vs. Walking for Weight Loss3. Running is convenient. Though many of us have accumulated a vast arsenal of GPS gadgets and tech tees over the years, little is actually required to go running. You can do it alone. You can do it almost anywhere. You don't need any equipment beyond a pair of running shoes. (And if you're careful about injury and build up slowly, you may not even need those. Check out the Benefits of Barefoot Running for more.) For this reason alone, running is the best workout for weight loss because it's cheap, it's accessible, and there are fewer barriers to maintaining a routine, even while traveling.4. Two words: runner's high. The first rule of exercising for weight loss is that if you don't enjoy it, you won't stick with it. Fortunately, studies support what many runners have experienced on an anecdotal level--running can actually get you high. Scientists have found links between moderate to intense exercise and morphine-like brain chemicals called endocannabinoids, which suggest endorphins alone aren't responsible for the occasional flood of euphoria that rushes over you during a hard run. That floaty, happy sensation you had after your last race--makes you want to go for another run, right?

8 Facts Why Women Are Better Than Men

Everyone knows that men are from Mars, and women are from Venus. That is why we tend to do the same things in completely different ways. And there are certain things women do much better than men
1. Women Study Better

According to the research, conducted at the University of Georgia, women are better students than men. This is mainly due to the fact that girls find it easier to expand the boundaries of their thinking, and their mind
is more flexible and loyal to the unknown.
In addition, women are more attentive and organized in terms of their homework. By the way, women are 34% more likely to complete their degree at the Institute, which is not the case with men, who are even likely to quit studying during the final year at the university.

2. Women Are Smarter
According to the IQ-tests conducted by the research institutes in Australia, Britain, the U.S. and Western Europe, the average intelligence of women is much higher than that of men. If you do not believe this fact, conduct an experiment and find out the IQ levels in your office.

3. Women Are Tidier

The study conducted at the University of San Diego in several thousand offices around the world showed that male workplace contained 10% -20% more bacteria than that of a woman. Psychologists explain this by the fact that men are afraid to seem too… emotional and housewifely to others, that is why they pay so little attention to the cleanliness of their workplace.

4. Women Are Better at Job Interviews

The latest study, conducted by the Institute of Eastern Ontario, demonstrated that women find it much easier to cope with various job interviews. As a rule, women prepare for the interview carefully and try to predict the possible questions and situations, in contrast to men, who are often baffled at a job interview.

5. Women Get Prettier with Each Generation

Recent studies of German scientists have shown that in the process of evolution women are getting more beautiful, while men, in general, remain the same. The researchers studied the appearance of three thousand people representing four generations and found that with each new generation girls were getting healthier, more attractive and proportionate. As for the boys, this tendency was not observed.

6. Women Survive Car Accidents More Often

It is an unpleasant thing, but it is true: men are 77% more likely to die in a car accident than women. This is the conclusion drawn by the European scientists, who studied road accidents in the EU. The reason for this result is largely due to the fact that women are 10 times more likely to wear a seatbelt, when driving a car.

7. Women Eat Healthier Foods

It’s all logical. Women take care of their figure and know that fried foods and half-prepared products are their worst enemies. So they eat more fruits and vegetables. But many men do not seem to notice their “beer” belly and a double chin. In addition, not many men can cook, so they mostly eat fast food, which is a real salvation for them. This is confirmed by the research conducted at the University of Minnesota, which studied daily rations of 14,000 men and women in developed countries.

8. Women Have a Stronger Immunity

It’s no secret that women cope with a common cold and other physical disorders in the body much easier. A secret weapon helps them – the estrogen hormone. It is this hormone that destroys an enzyme that prevents the body’s defense against bacteria.

Benefits of Vitamin D in pregnancy

Benefits of Vitamin D in pregnancy may prevent multiple sclerosis
PARIS: Researchers said Thursday they have found evidence that Vitamin D supplements for pregnant women in the world's colder, darker countries may stave off multiple sclerosis (MS) in their offspring.
The finding adds to a growing body of work showing a link between low Vitamin D levels and the debilitating
disease, which sees the immune system attacking the body's own nerve fibres.Data on more than 150,000 MS patients born in places north of 52 degrees, revealed a heightened risk for those born in April -- a month preceded by a long period without sunlight, said a paper in the Journal of Neurology, Neurosurgery and Psychiatry.Of the total, 13,300 were born in April compared to 11,600 in November -- a lower-risk month after summer in the northern hemisphere, British researchers wrote.Month of birth has a significant effect on subsequent MS risk they said. This is likely to be due to ultraviolet light exposure and maternal Vitamin D levels. They added, though, it could also be "any factor that varies in a similar seasonal and latitudinal manner. The data was taken from individuals born between 1930 and 1980, from studies done in Britain, the United States, Italy, Israel, Finland, Scotland, Sweden and Canada -- parts of which see little sunlight between the months of October and March.About 100,000 people in Britain and about 400,000 in the United States are believed to suffer from MS, a disease that affects vision, movement, balance, sensation, bladder control and eventually also memory and thinking. There is no cure.Study co-author Sreeram Ramagopalan from the Queen Mary University of London told AFP the findings amounted to an added MS risk of five percent for people born in April -- about five extra births per million.Pregnant mothers need to ensure they are Vitamin D replete at all times Ramagopalan said in an email exchange.Because Vitamin D deficiency is a massive problem at the moment due to living at high latitudes and lifestyle changes (wearing sunscreen etc), mothers may need to take several thousand international units of Vitamin D3 to become Vitamin D replete.Humans need Vitamin D, which our bodies produce from exposure to sunlight or extract from food, for healthy bones Suspected links between a lack of vitamin D and an increased risk of death, including from heart disease and certain types of cancer, have been the subject of medical research for several years.Researchers have also focused on its possible role in MS.It is thought that maternal Vitamin D levels during pregnancy affect the immune status of the developing foetus, and hence modulates subsequent MS risk wrote the authors.North of 52 degrees latitude lies the northern parts of England, the Scandinavian countries, and most of Russia and Canada.

Sharks Do Get Cancer: Tumor Found in Great White

Scientists have known for more than 150 years that sharks get cancer. And yet the belief persists that the animals don't suffer from the disease. That misconception is promoted in part by those who sell shark cartilage, who claim that the substance will help cure cancer, said David Shiffman, a shark researcher and doctoral student at the University of Miami. But no studies have shown that shark cartilage is an effective treatment, and the demand for the material has helped decimate shark populations, researchers say: Humans kill about 100 million sharks per year, according to a March 2013 study (although many factors
contribute to the killing of sharks, including demand for shark-fin soup).  Recently, researchers in Australia noticed a large tumor protruding from the mouth of a great white shark, as well as another mass on the head of a bronze whaler shark. The great white's tumor measured 1 foot (30 centimeters) long and 1 foot wide, according to a study describing the tumors published online in November in the Journal of Fish Diseases.
This was a very unusual sight as we have never before seen a [great] white shark with tumors," said Rachel Robbins, a study co-author and shark biologist at the Fox Shark Research Foundation, near Adelaide, in southern Australia. [Image Gallery: Great White Sharks]

In total, scientists have now documented tumors in at least 23 species of sharks, including the two in the new study, Robbins said. The main take-home message from the study is that it adds to the growing evidence of tumor formation in sharks, contrary to popular belief that sharks do not suffer from such anomalies," Robbins told LiveScience.Sharks get cancer said Shiffman, who wasn't involved in the study. "Even if they didn't get cancer, eating shark products won't cure cancer any more than me eating Michael Jordan would make me better at basketball. The belief that shark cartilage can treat cancer diverts patients from effective treatments, according to a 2004 review in the journal Cancer Research. The demand for cartilage also fuels widespread fishing for sharks. One in six known species of sharks, rays and skates are considered threatened with extinction by the International Union for Conservation of Nature, an environmental group, Shiffman said.
It's unknown what caused the tumors in the great white or bronzer shark. However, reports of cancerous tumors in marine animals, especially mammals, have steadily increased over the past 20 years, raising concerns that industrial pollutants or human activities may trigger the cancers, according to the study. Beluga whales have been recorded to suffer from cancer, and in areas near aluminum smelting plants, cancer is the second leading killer of the whales, the study noted.

The Health Mistake 80 Percent of Americans Make

If a miracle ingredient found in many tasty, inexpensive foods helped you lose weight, live longer and avoid dangerous diseases wouldn’t you eat it every day?Actually there is such a food ingredient—dietary fiber—and most of us eat too little of it putting ourselves at increased risk for heart problems and other health woes according to a new study published in the December issue of The American Journal of Medicine (AJM).In fact the study found that more than 80 percent of the 23,168 people studied
consumed far less than the recommended amount of fiber—and most men averaged less than half of the amount needed to keep their hearts healthy.
The researchers reported that compared to people who eat the most fiber, those who ate the least had a much higher rate of heart disease risk factors, such as obesity, chronic inflammation, and metabolic syndrome.Metabolic syndrome is a dangerous gang of five metabolic villains that doubles risk for heart attack and quintuples it for type 2 diabetes, as I reported in a recent article.  Here’s a closer look at the study.
What’s the link between fiber and heart disease risk?
The researchers reported that previous studies suggest that dietary fiber protects against heart disease by reducing blood pressure, cholesterol, and biomarkers of inflammation, all of which play a major role in the development of heart disease, the leading killer of Americans.
In addition, a diet that is rich in fiber has been linked to weight loss (by helping people feel full) and improved insulin sensitivity. Obesity and insulin resistance can contribute to risk for both heart disease and type 2 diabetes, which in turn, also increases the threat of developing heart disease.
Best Tips For a Healthier Heart
What are the other health benefits of fiber?
In a 2011 study of nearly 400,000 older adults, conducted by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and American Association of Retired People (AARP), those who ate a fiber-rich diet had the lowest death rates during the 9-year study.
The study found that men ages 50 or older who ate the most fiber had an up to 56 percent lower risk for dying from cardiovascular disease, respiratory illnesses, or infectious diseases, compared to men who ate the least fiber. In women ages 50 and up, a high-fiber diet reduced fatalities from those conditions by up to 59 percent.
Another 2011 report, by the American Institute for Cancer Research (AICR), concluded that more than 64,000 cases of colon cancer could be prevented if Americans ate more fiber-rich plant foods, cut down on red meat and alcohol, exercised more, and stayed lean.
After analyzing hundreds of scientific papers, the group’s experts concluded that the evidence that foods containing fiber reduce colon cancer risk is now “convincing.”
10 Diet Changes to Extend Your Life
How much fiber should you eat?
The Institute of Medicine recommends 38 grams of fiber daily for men ages 19 to 50, and 30 grams daily for men over 50. Women ages 19 to 50 should eat 25 grams daily, while the goal for women over 50 is 21 grams daily. In the AJM study, which analyzed dietary data from participants in a national health survey, daily fiber intake only averaged 15.7 to 17 grams, less than half the amount advised for men ages 50 or younger.
Which foods contain the most fiber?
The AICR recommends a plant-based diet that is high in such fiber-rich foods such as fruits, vegetables, beans and whole grains.
Their experts also advise limiting red meat to 18 ounces (cooked weight) per week. That’s equivalent to 5 to 6 small portions of beef lamb or pork.
Also be aware that fiber comes in two varieties, as I reported recently. Insoluble fiber helps food move through the digestive system more quickly, helping cut risk for colon cancer. This type of fiber is found in whole wheat bran, nuts, and many vegetables.

Soluble fiber which helps reduce cholesterol and blood sugar, is found in such foods as oats peas apples beans citrus fruits carrots and psylium according to the Mayo Clinic. It’s best to increase the amount of fiber in your diet gradually to help your digestive system adjust to the change.

Olive Garden Adds Burger in Challenge to Chili's

Olive Garden is beefing up its menu -- literally
Today the Italian chain will start serving a $9.99 six-ounce burger to better compete with fast-casual and other sit-down dining chains.Owned by Darden Restaurants Inc.(DRI) Olive Garden has been refining
its menu as it struggles to attract Americans amid fierce competition in the aftermath of the economic downturn.Darden Chief Executive Officer Clarence Otis has been advertising three-course meals aimed at budget-conscious diners and small plates to lure the young, bar-hopping crowd. The chain's same-store sales dropped 4 percent in the three months ended Aug.25 and in October hedge fund Barington Capital Group LP took a 2.8 percent stake and began pushing for changes.Olive Garden conducted research to figure out which competitors were picking up the diners it was losing, said Jim Nuetzi executive chef at the 820-store chain.A lot of times we were losing them to a burger craving.Competitors have been selling and refining burgers for years.Chili's the eatery owned by Brinker International Inc.(EAT) sells bacon guacamole and mini burgers with sauteed onions.DineEquity Inc.'s (DIN) Applebee's restaurants have quesadilla burgers and a bourbon black and bleu burger slathered with spicy mayo.Olive Garden's menu got too expensive and they didn't remodel stores fast enough, said Peter Saleh a New York-based analyst at Telsey Advisory Group.

McDonald's Pasta

He said the chain needs more than one burger to boost sales and isn't convinced it fits Olive Garden's Italian roots. It would be the same as McDonald's trying to do some sort of pasta meal he said.I'm not seeing it.
Neither were executives at Olive Garden, at first.
There was hefty debate and some couldn't imagine what an Italian burger would look or taste like said Nuetzi.Others were worried that arugula wouldn't appeal to Olive Garden diners, most of whom are better acquainted with iceberg lettuce. Nuetzi convinced the opposition by cooking an Italian-style burger for them to try.Nuetzi 41 has been cooking since he was 14 years old first dishing up pizzas at an Italian eatery in Atlanta. He started at Capital Grille in 1998 now owned by Darden, and moved to Olive Garden last year. One of his first moves has been creating the Italiano burger something that came naturally as he's also behind Capital Grille's signature burger with pureed bacon and onion mixed into the beef.Olive Garden's burger is topped with mozzarella prosciutto arugula pesto tomatoes and aioli spread.
Messy Tomatoes
The burger was tested twice earlier this year.Nuetzi tweaked it after diners weighed in doubling the aioli spread slicing the tomatoes instead of dicing them into small pieces because they fell out of the bun and made a mess.Perhaps the biggest change: French fries.
All Olive Garden sandwiches used to be served a la carte.Starting next month they'll be paired with Parmesan garlic fries. It just became obvious Nuetzi said. You've got to serve a burger with fries.
Through Nov. 29 Darden shares had gained 18 percent this year, while Brinker jumped 52 percent and DineEquity advanced 26 percent.

10 Important things Money Can Not Buy

Amir Khan in one of his interview said “To stay fit and healthy, I eat a proper diet, rest well and exercise”.  While money can give you good food and
equipment’s to exercise but what about resting? It is so essential to have good sleep and rest included in your daily activity. Money may help you buy medicines but not good health; in fact every medicine encloses a side effect inside itself.  But we all generally ignore that; we readily agree to work extra hours for money but not for ourselves. This small negligence becomes big problem to our body and in some time starts showing adverse effects. Sometime we even end up spending all the hard earned wealth into health treatments. Is that justified?Money can never bring you respect, you will have to earn it with your good deeds and hard work. You may still find many around you who flatter you, but the scenario changes behind your back instantly.  Greed, jealousy and desire may disable your inner soul but consciousness will not. Life is not centric on money, but has many more dimensions. Donation, helping people in need, serving humanity or to simply say utilizing money for the good of mankind will always reward you back and give you gifts that money cannot buy.

Benefits of water in our life

Most of the experts have the view that our body requirement for good digestion and absorption drink two and half liter water daily. In summer and after hard exercise you may need more water.

This requirement of water can be achieved through juices and drinks. The water in our food also fulfills this requirement to some extent. For example in 100 gram apple 84-gram water is found. In the same way drinks made of milk and soups have a good amount of water
Our body gets 1 liter liquid from solid food and our body needs 300 ml to 500 ml liquid for the process of digestion. Tea and coffee are also a source of liquid. But don’t take more than 6 cups of tea or coffee daily because caffeine found in tea stops the absorption of minerals and Vitamins.
Our kidney can run the system with1 liquid water. Kidney discharges the filth of body and dirty water. They also control blood pressure and avoid kidney infection. In summer or in case of tough exercise if you don’t take the appropriate amount of water you have to face dehyderation. When you feel thirsty it means you need water. If the color of urine is clear and light it means you are taking the right amount of water. But if your urine is dark yellowish you should understand that your water intake is not enough for your body. To avoid dehydration drink 1 glass water in the morning and many glasses of water during the day. Eat such fruits and vegetables, which have large amount of, water for example grapes and brokly. The symptoms of dehydration are headache, constipation and fatigue. The deficiency of water thickens your blood and increases stickiness which can cause stone in kidney ,heart attack and paralysis.
You must have heard that ‘Excess of everything is bad.’ If you drink more than 4 liters of water it will cause the deficiency of sodium, which is very dangerous.
It is a common concept that soft water is better than heavy water. According to a recent research of Fun land the heavy water has a large amount of minerals. It helps to avoid heart diseases.

Positive Social Traits Good For Your Health

Washington, Oct 23 : A new study has suggested that with positive social traits, declines in health could be delayed by up to a decade. Many studies have documented the dangers of the traditional negative physical risk factors on health-excessive smoking, drinking and being overweight.

However, very few have focused on less-tangible, positive influences-the protective role of psychological andsocial supports.Margie E. Lachman and Stefan Agrigoroaei of the Brandeis Psychology Department explored the psychological roots of health.Lachman and Agrigoroaei''s study The Midlife in the U. S. (MIDUS), involved 3,626 adults aged 32 to 84 who were assessed over two periods about 10 years apart.
It found that that with proper protective elements in place, declines in health could be delayed by up to a decade. The research identified physical exercise, social support and control beliefs, individually and in combination, as significant predictors of change in functional health, above and beyond the negative effects of the traditional risk factors.Control beliefs" refer to a person''s sense of how much they can influence important life outcomes. Those who have a greater sense of control are more likely to engage in health-promoting behaviours, such as getting exercise and eating right. Supportive social relationships can promote health by reducing stress and encouraging healthy behaviours.
The research was published in the journal PlosOne. (ANI).

Think positive for great And Good health

Look on the bright side isn’t just a well-worn phrase  it’s medical advice worth heeding, says Hilary Tindle, author of Up:
How Positive Outlook Can Transform Our Health and Aging. Tindle, an assistant professor of medicine at the University of Pittsburgh, cites research and patient case studies, including her own as a heart patient, to show how attitude can influence your health. Not Pollyanna. “Being ‘up’ isn’t being happy or perky, Tindle says. “It refers to traits that every human has, such as optimism, conscientiousness, and working toward and completing goals. Optimists are resourceful, have coping skills and mobilize social support.Know the Simple Seven. The American Heart Association has named seven healthy steps that can help prevent cardiovascular disease, a top killer of most Americans, Tindle says. They include exercising regularly, eating well, maintaining a healthy weight, keeping blood sugar, blood pressure and cholesterol levels within normal ranges, and avoiding smoking. Optimists meet more of the Simple Seven than pessimists do, she notes.Positive self-talk helps. “Have the courage to change any negative thoughts, like ‘I’ll never lose weight, she says. “These are the behind-the-scenes changes in outlook that can help fuel and maintain healthy behavior.
