Scary Beautiful Shoes by Leanie van der Vyver

South African designer Leanie van der Vyver is a recent grad of the Gerrit Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam. After working in fashion for seven years, she became
very well aware of the manipulation of images in fashion that “suffer for a perfect result,” and how we unfortunately compare ourselves to these images. Her frustrations with this and her own feelings of inadequacy against these fake images brought about the Scary Beautiful project.

Why Do Kelly Osbourne’s Shoes Look Good Enough to Eat?

Kelly Osbourne shows off her delicious new heels. (Instagram)
Kelly Osbourne is embracing summertime … from her head down to her feet!

The "Fashion Police star was on hand to celebrate mom-to-be Fergie's baby shower in West Hollywood on Sunday afternoon  and she was one of the sweetest things in the room thanks to her fabulous footwear.
"Loving my new ice cream cone jelly heels," the 28-year-old wrote on Instagram before the party, posting a pic of her refreshing fashion statement. The platform heels, which are a design collaboration between Brazilian shoe label Melissa and iconic designer (and harsh fashion critic Karl Lagerfeld, are mostly black matching Osbourne's long-sleeved LBD with a decorative glittery pink single scoop of ice cream on the heel above a wafer cone. Also of note? The plastic shoes are scented. Each pair gives off a fruity fragrance.
And they won't melt! Well, anything other than our hearts, that is.
Also, unlike an actual ice cream cone, which will set you back a couple of bucks, these pumps are pricier, retailing for $175 on Saks Fifth Avenue's website. Not exactly cheap for plastic shoes, but they should last longer than your average sticky, drippy ice cream cone. And, hey, at least they're low in calories.
It seems that Osbourne's shoes were perfect for Fergie's shower, which  according to our eyewitness  was a fun, festive, and untraditional affair. One of the highlights of the bash was a performance by drag queen (and former "Australian Idol" semi-finalist) Courtney Act. And guests decorated onesies with rhinestones for the baby, who the singer and husband Josh Duhamel recently announced will be a boy.

Ronda Rousey’s ‘Body Issue’ picture immortalized in fan tattooa

UFC bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey posed nude for the cover of ESPN the Magazine's Body Issue in 2012
. One fan was so moved by the picture he had the image turned into a tattoo. There was some artistic license taken with the tattoo, like UFC gloves instead of the body wraps, but it's not a bad likeness of the champ.
Here's the big question: Rousey's rival coach on the next season of "The Ultimate Fighter" and opponent at UFC 168, Miesha Tate, posed for the Body Issue this year. Will we see some overzealous fan with Tate body ink next year?

Good-natured Rex Ryan takes photo with Jets fan wearing ‘This team makes me drink’ shirt

CORTLAND, N.Y. – A chance meeting between a New York Jets fan and coach Rex Ryan showed that even though Ryan is facing the pressure of a season on the hot seat, he
still has a sense of humor.
On Saturday night following the second day of training camp, Ryan and his coaching staff went out to enjoy the nightlife of Cortland, N.Y. and bumped into Joseph Grinwis, a lifelong Jets fan. When Grinwis strolled up to Ryan around midnight on Saturday night to ask for a photo, he wasn’t sure how his T-shirt would be handled by the head coach of his long-suffering team.
His shirt simply said: “This Team Makes Me Drink.”
“I was a little bit ‘Oh no’ inside. I mean, the one night I’m wearing this shirt, you know?” said Grinwis, who made the trip from Wantage Township, N.J., more than a three-hour drive from upstate New York, to watch training camp. “But he was cool with it. Maybe he wasn’t on the inside but he seemed cool with it.”
Ryan referenced the trip to downtown Cortland during his Sunday press conference.
“The entire coaching staff and scouting department went out last night. That’s how close this group is. And not because you make them, well half of them,” Ryan said jokingly. “But we all go out and we sit around, we talk – had a water.”
Grinwis said he saw Ryan in the Dark Horse Tavern and spoke with the head coach, telling him how much he loved the Jets. He said that Ryan was appreciative of his support and the effort he made to come up to training camp.
And even seemed fine with a T-shirt poking fun at his team.

“He looked at it and laughed,” Ginwis said. “He didn’t make a comment. He just laughed.”

Egypt warns sit-ins as weekend death toll climbs

CAIRO (AP)  Egypt's interior minister on Sunday pledged to deal decisively with any attempts to destabilize the country, a thinly veiled warning to supporters of ousted President Mohammed Morsi occupying two
squares in Cairo in a month-long stand-off with the security forces. The warning came as authorities said that the death toll in weekend clashes between Mohammed Morsi's Islamist backers and security forces near one of those sit-ins had reached 72, in the deadliest single outbreak of violence since the July 3 military coup.
"I assure the people of Egypt that the police are determined to maintain security and safety to their nation and are capable of doing so," Mohammed Ibrahim told a graduation ceremony at the national police academy. "We will very decisively deal with any attempt to undermine stability," said Ibrahim, who is in charge of the police.Ibrahim's comments added pressure on Morsi's backers three weeks after the Islamist president was ousted in a military coup that followed days of street protests by millions calling on him to step down.
On Friday, millions again took to the streets in a show of support for Gen. Abdel-Fattah el-Sissi, the military chief who ousted Morsi. Those protests were in response to Abdel-Fattah's call for a mandate for him and the police to tackle what he called violence and potential terrorism.View gallery."In this Friday, July 26, 2013, photo released on Saturday, …In this Friday, July 26, 2013, photo released on Saturday, July 27, by the Egyptian army, opponentsIbrahim, who had been appointed by Morsi, took an uncompromising stance in a news conference on Saturday, accusing the pro-Morsi side of provoking bloodshed to win sympathy and suggesting that authorities could move against the two main pro-Morsi protest camps: one outside the Rabaah al-Adawiya mosque in eastern Cairo and another in Nahda Square near the main campus of Cairo university. He depicted the two encampments as a danger to the public, pointing to a string of nine bodies police have said were found nearby in recent days. Some had been tortured to death, police have said, apparently by members of the sit-ins who believed they were spies.
"Soon we will deal with both sit-ins," Ibrahim said.On Tuesday, Khaled el-Khateeb, head of the ministry's emergency and intensive care department, said that beside the 72 killed in the Cairo clashes, eight were killed in clashes in the Mediterranean city of Alexandria also over the weekend.A total of 792 people were wounded in both incidents, which spanned Friday and early Saturday, he said.View gallery."In this Friday, July 26, 2013, photo released on Saturday, …

The Cairo violence took place when pro-Morsi protesters sought to expand their sit-in camp by moving onto a nearby main boulevard, only to be confronted by police and unidentified armed men in civilian clothes.
Civilians, sometimes with weapons, are frequently seen alongside police in Cairo demonstrations. In some cases, they appear to be police auxiliaries or plainclothesmen, in others residents who back the security forces.
Authorities concede that the vast majority of the dead in Cairo were demonstrators, but the Interior Ministry says some policemen were wounded and it is not clear if civilians who sided with police were among the dead.
The extent of the bloodshed pointed to a rapidly building confrontation between the country's two camps, sharply divided over the coup that removed Egypt's first freely elected president following protests by millions of Egyptians demanding he step down.
Officials from Morsi's Muslim Brotherhood and their allies decried what they called a new "massacre" against their side, only weeks after July 8 clashes with army troops in Cairo that left more than 50 Morsi supporters dead.

U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry said that he spoke to Egyptian authorities, saying it is "essential" they respect the right to peaceful protest. He called on all sides to enter a "meaningful political dialogue" to "help their country take a step back from the brink."
U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon also asked security forces to "act with full respect for human rights" and demonstrators to "exercise restraint."The U.N.'s human rights chief Navi Pillay issued also condemned the violence.
In a Sunday statement, she said: "Despite all the warnings, all the calls for restraint, more than 150 Egyptians have died during protests over the past month, not just in Cairo but in other cities as well," she said. "I fear for the future of Egypt if the military and other security forces, as well as some demonstrators, continue to take such a confrontational and aggressive approach. Supporters of the Muslim Brotherhood have the right to protest peacefully like anyone else."
Pillay called for a "credible, independent investigation" into the killings and punishment for those responsible. "Given what has happened in recent days, further protests are inevitable, and the onus is clearly on both the security forces and the protesters to ensure there is no repetition of yesterday's terrible and deeply tragic events."

Neither side in the Egyptian conflict, however, has shown much taste for reconciliation. Islamists staunchly reject the new leadership and insist the only possible solution to the crisis is to reinstate Morsi. Meanwhile, the interim leadership is pushing ahead with a fast-track transition plan to return to a democratically elected government by early next year.

Interim Vice President Mohamed ElBaradei, a longtime pro-democracy campaigner who backed the military's ouster of Morsi, raised one of the few notes of criticism of Saturday's bloodshed.

"I highly condemn the excessive use of force and the fall of victims," he wrote in a tweet, though he did not directly place blame for the use of force. He added that he is "working very hard and in all directions to end this confrontation in a peaceful manner."

But the image of the Islamists as dangerous and not the peaceful protesters they contend they are has had a strong resonance. Over past weeks, there have been cases of armed Islamist Morsi backers attacking opponents — though the reverse also has occurred. Before Saturday, some 180 people had been killed in clashes nationwide.

Rescued hikers drown inside vehicle leaving state park

A pair of hikers who had been rescued after getting lost in the fog and rain inside a Maine state park drowned on Tuesday night when their car plunged into the water off a boat launch as they were trying to
leave.Amy Stiner, 37 and Melissa Moyer, 38, were found dead inside a minivan in 20 feet of water about 175 feet from the boat ramp on the edge of Roque Bluffs State Park, the Washington County Sheriff's Department said. A dog, a pit bull mix who was with them also drowned.Officials say the women, who had just been returned to their vehicle by a game warden, took a wrong turn as they were driving away from the parking area."The end of the road becomes the boat landing and they just weren't familiar with it," Washington County Sheriff Donnie Smith told the Kennebec Journal. "It was foggy and rainy and they literally drove off the boat landing right into the water.Stiner made a desperate call to 911 at approximately 9 p.m., saying they were trapped inside the submerged minivan and that it was filling up with water, according to the Bangor Daily News."And then the phone just went dead Smith said.
Police used GPS data from the cellphone to locate the general area of the van, and called in the Maine Marine Patrol and U.S. Coast Guard to join in the search, but it was too late.
Stiner, who lived in nearby Machias, Maine was five months pregnant, police said. Moyer, from Sunbury, Pa., was visiting when the tragedy unfolded.
Earlier, Stiner and Moyer had used a cellphone to call for help after they became lost during their hike.
An off-duty firefighter with the Sunrise Search and Rescue team found the pair and their dog on the western shore of the park and took them to a nearby house Smith said. A game warden then picked them up and brought them back to their vehicle.
The state medical examiner was called to determine the official cause of death, but Smith said he didn't suspect any foul play. It's just so easy to do Smith said. When I got the call last night, I knew what had happened.
